CONTACT LENSES DURING CORONAVIRUS-TIMES. WHAT TO AND NOT TO DO?

Due to the increased attention related to COVID-19, now more than ever, we take care of our health and the health of our surroundings. Let us therefore remind the steps that are necessary for the safe wearing and care of contact lenses.

Wearing contact lenses has many advantages and if they are properly taken care of, they ensure comfortable vision at work and other activities for around 140 million successful wearers worldwide.

There is currently no scientific evidence that wearing contact lenses would be dangerous during the current pandemic. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly follow the recommendations of your eye specialist, as well as instructions on the use of contact lenses and care routine. However, what is the basic rule is to wash your hands with clean water before applying the lens to wash off the residue of the disinfectant gel, which can cause burning of the eyes.

Clean lens means comfort

 What to do about it?*
  • Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before applying the contact lenses so that you can touch the lenses and eyes.
  • Follow the contact lenses care instructions provided by your ophthalmologist or optometrist or the instructions stated on the solution.
  • Always use a fresh solution – never “recycle” it!
  • Clean the contact lenses case with a solution on a daily basis – wipe the case with a clean paper towel and let it dry upside down, preferably throughout the whole day.
  • Replace the contact lenses case according to the recommendations of an ophthalmologist or optometrist, ideally once a month.
  • Follow the instructions of an ophthalmologist or an optometrist to be able to use your contact lenses and the products for their care correctly.
What not to do?
  • Do not use tap water or other water on the contact lenses or lenses case!
  • Do not wear your lenses if your eyes are red or irritated.
  • Do not sleep or nap with contact lenses on unless they are intended for such use.
  • Do not touch any surface with the tip of the bottle of solution to avoid contamination of the eye, solution or lenses.
  • Do not apply eye drops or other drugs without consulting an ophthalmologist, optometrist or pharmacist first .
  • Do not re-add the new solution to the solution used or pour in the solution from another case.
  • Do not change your solution or contact lenses without prior consultation or advice from a specialist.
  • Disposable contact lenses are for single use only!
  • Do not wear contact lenses when showering, bathing or swimming if you do not have your eyes protected by special glasses, e.g. swimming goggles.
